A Dubai triple

So I’m heading off to Dubai again for the third time in 9 weeks. This time I’m uncertain to how much free time I’ll get during daylight hours, but I’m determined to get my workouts in. Tuesday will be the toughest physically with a 4:45 start and home again around 20:00. But where there is a will there is a way. The Marriott Marquis has a 24hr gym which means no excuses.

Everything we could do in advance of my 40th B-Day party on Saturday is done. The only thing left to do is pick up the food and some wine. I’ve been sitting on a few bottles of whiskey for a few years, it will be nice to finally get to taste them.

Hopefully our babysitter will be able to help out this week so Jeanette can enjoy her workouts… It will be a hard negotiations for Christmas training now that she’s just as hooked as me

Whiskey and my up and coming 40th

So those of you that have been to our house know I have a thing for whiskey. Before 2005 when Lily was born the best I knew was a good cigar and a whiskey. I gave up cigars so our girls would not grow up in a tobacco environment.

Today I picked up a box of Mackmyra TIO, their first 10yr whiskey. Unfortunately I decided to sell half of them before I tasted them. And because I had ten friends ask to buy one I sold all but two.

Ironman Tattoo

Even before I registered for my first Ironman, I knew that after I crossed the finish line that getting an Mdot tattoo was going to be on the top of my “to-do-list”. I think it is so cool to see those with their Mdot tattoo, either a straight up red Mdot, or with a theme for the specific race they finished.  Since I prefer to race with calf guards I knew that having an Mdot on my calf would only be seen during training.

I originally booked a time for the 20th of Nov, but a business trip put a stop to that. With Swedish Nationals the 28-29th I had to wait until after. So on Dec 2nd I finally was able to get a time that worked for me…

Dubai, Oman, Höstsimiaden & Swedish Nationals this week…

This turned out to be longer than I planned.

On the 12th of Nov I traveled back to Dubai. It was my longest trip away from home since before Viola was born. After traveling all day wednesday I had a 12 hour work day visiting our potential new supplier on Thursday. Since the hotel gym is open 24 hours I enjoyed a late work out to clear my mind.
The Emirates weekend is Friday-Saturday, but with my office working as usual on Fridays I decided to work out of the hotel. Around 16:00 local time I turned my computer off and was ready for my one day off. I went to the gym for nearly 3 hours. Man it felt so good to workout two days in a row.

I’ve been married too long….

I think that I’ve been married for too long. I can not go to bed (or to be more accurate fall asleep) on my own any more, I need my wife to say, “I am going to bed now.” which every good husband knows means “and so are you!”

These long days with 45-90 min in the car to work and 90-120 min on the way back to the hotel with 10 hours of work in between is draining me. I see the sun but don’t get to feel the warmth. It’s a good thing that I got extra sun on Saturday.

Pushing myself to max is not natural for me.

One would think, that trying to be the best and pushing my body to its limits and then beyond would come natural to me since I have been competing since I was 6 yrs old. Surprise surprise, no it’s not. I am one of the laziest athletes you will ever meet.

Pushing myself to max is not something that comes naturally for me. I have almost always been that guy who does the minimum needed to get by. Whether it was sports or school, I did what was asked of me, I did it well, but I was not that guy who did that little extra. This became very apparent to me when I started lifting weights in college. I had no problems lifting 70-85% of my max in sets of 12-15 reps. But as we started to go from 90% up to max or a new max, I was not as driven as others. However, if I have a coach standing next to me, I would go that little extra trying not to disappoint my coach.

O:500 – “What’s the ‘O’ stand for….”

One of my favorite Robin Williams movie as a kid was “Good morning Vietnam”. When he says that it O 500 and then follows it up with “what’s the O stand for? Oh my god it’s early”

Why would I be thinking of this today. Well simple. It’s been nearly three months since I have woken up early on little sleep to workout. Yes, I have had one morning workout in October but it was only done because it had to be done. Yesterday we started the day at 08:30 and got home at 23:15. Then I had emails to read and reply, and then of course I started watching a movie. So the TV was on until 00:45, and I got a sms from Jeanette around that time so didn’t turn the lights off until just after 01:30.
