1,000,000m Swimming 2020

I was happy with my 2020 goal to swim 800km in 2020.  Its an average of about 2.2km/day, or 15.4km/week. It would have also been an increase from around 725km from 2011 and 2012.  But yesterday I got trick into reading about others that were shooting for 1,000,000m in 2020.

It sounded like a lot, but then I looked at it again and it would only mean an extra 500m/day or 3500m/week.  I had been considering adding a fifth swim workout to my week, and this challenge will give me that extra motivation I needed to make it happen.

I know that a majority of my swimming will happen May-Aug, so from now until April I just need to do what I can to not miss a practice.  When I do miss a swim practice, I will have to consider switching a crossfit or spinning pass with going to the pool instead.  Once the lake is suitable for swimming I will have to start swimming 6 days a week until mid-summers eve.  From mid-summer until after my Viking race I will have to swim at least once a day to get my shoulders ready for that long swim.  Good thing that I have lots of swimming friends around me that will make going to the pool/lake easier.

My wife also supports this goal, since she wants me to get back into shape.

2019 Summary & 2020 Goals

2019 was supposed to be a swim year for me. I was hoping to average ~42km swimming, ~31 hrs training and 10 CrossFit workouts a month.

But right from the get go work would put a stop to my training. Several trips to Poland starting January 13th, two to Dubai, then China, Malaysia and Lithuania really made it hard to swim or workout at all.
