2020 is not the year that anyone saw coming. I am just happy that I live in Sweden and we have not closed down society or had a lock down. Sure we have restrictions to follow like stay home when you can (ie only essential travelling), avoid contact with the elderly, working from home if you can, not more than 50 people at gatherings, high schools and colleges closed for home schooling as well as lots of companies had to send their employees home with materials for production could not be delivered. Swedish Nationals for Seniors, Juniors, Youth and Masters have been canceled. One by one open water races, bike races, runs, triathlons have had to cancel because of the travel restrictions and/or the max 50 people per gathering rule in place.

Vansbro 2020
I am really hoping to be able to get enough help next year so that I can race in our local OW race on June 13th, but I do know now how my July will start. Yesterday I registered for 5 races over 8 days in Vansbro. But then a few hours later, they announced that one of the starting groups would be a retro theme to help celebrate the races 70 year history.
Vidösternsimmet 2019 – 21km & 6km races in one day
Back in Dec 2018, one of my Masters swimmers, probable the least likely to do so, announced that he was going to swim the 21+km OW swim. He had been speaker the year before and was inspired to give it a try. It didn’t take much convincing from him until a second swimmer signed up. After last years tough non wetsuit swim I decided, I should give it another try, but this time with a wetsuit.

Vidöstern Open Water 21+km
After 2014’s race I didn’t think I would be back in Värnamo to race again. But early this year in June I was offered to buy a starting spot from a friend who no longer felt he was prepared for a long race. At that time I was training well. But since then, a long family vacation, work trips to Brazil & northern Sweden as well as camping trips put a stop to that. With only 13 km swimming during the month of July I head over to Värnamo for my fourth start of the 21+km race. To make it a real challenge I chose to participate in the non-wetsuit class.

Swedish Short Course Nationals 2018
It’s been another year of swimming. But this year has truly been a comeback year for me. I have a great team with people I look forward to meeting at the pool, pushing them, having them push back.
I did not get any PBs at this meet, but I am happy with my progress. I will get faster again, but for now… only click below if you want the really long version (wink: Ed don’t click) Continue reading
Beach Event 2016
Last year Crossfit Växjö won the Beach Event at Falkenberg when Fredrik crossed the finish line with the fastest time and I came in fourth. This year Fredrik was away and my participation in the event was doubtful considering what happened last Saturday.
But the weather forecast was sunny and warm, so the family woke up early and we headed to the west coast. Continue reading
Kalmar Swimrun (33km+7km)
What a race, and a fantastic course, but on July 16th my body wasn’t 100% and I fell to the ground with less than 500 m left to the finish line…. But let’s start from the beginning.

Ironman 70.3 Jönköping
So this past Sunday I participated in my first official Ironman 70.3, in Jönköping. I had done the Vättern Challenge, the same distances, but slightly different course, and this time the race was under the Ironman flag, which really helps draw a larger crowd to the race. Continue reading
