5 meters does not sound like a lot, but for me it was my first milestone of 2016.
In crossfit it is not really possible to list everything you can or can not do, since things are being added or modified all the time. But based on the basic movements/standards I narrowed down a list of things I want to be able to do by the end of 2016.
Handstand walking for 5 meters was the first. I started back in Oct/Nov just working on balance and wrist strength. Before Christmas I managed 3 meters, but I was also able to just stand in place longer, and with the support of a wall, stand for just over 2 minutes. So arm and core strength were not the issue, just balance. Last week I did some handstand balance drills with Nathalie at Crossfit Linné and today with David at Crossfit Växjö I was able to put it all together and walked 5 meters on my hands! Not just once, but twice. So no my new handstand walking goal, inspired by Per, is to be able to walk 5 meters every time I try, but 10 meters on a good day.
So now you must be thinking, well what else do you plan on working on this year. The list is not very long, but it will take a lot of work.
1- Double Unders: I just need to practice jumping rope more than during my WoDs. I can manage to do one double then single jump, then double… but I want to be able to do 30 DUs unbroken before the end of 2016.
2- Muscle-ups: I would love to be able to do a MU on both a bar and rings. There is a lot of technique involved, but most importantly there is a high strength to weight ratio that comes into play. I can only do 1-2 strict pull-ups at my current weight. so the more I workout, the stronger I will get, and hopefully the more weigh I lose, the sooner I will be able to perform MUs.
3- Pistols (or one-legged squats): Right now I think it is an issue of body balance and flexibility. I can squat 130 kg which is more than my own body weight, so technically I should be strong enough to squat my own body weight with just one leg. But when I attempt to do them, I either have to stop before reaching 90 degrees, or I fall down as I reach 90 degrees. Just as with MUs, I think that as I lose weight and get stronger, these should become easier.
Besides these three movements, I would like to be able to do all the “girl” WoDs with the Rx weight. I have done Diane, Elizabeth, Fran, Grace, Isabel, Karen. Right now Linda and Mary are the only ones I can not complete because of my body weight:strength ratio or Pistols.
My long term goals will be to get strong enough to be able to complete any “Hero” WoD out today, and future “Hero” WoDs.
